Oh gosh! I had to go back and look up books published in 2010, because I don't always read books the year they were published.

White Cat (The Curseworkers #1) | Holly Black

from goodreads:

Cassel comes from a family of Curse Workers - people who have the power to change your emotions, your memories, your luck, by the slightest touch of their hands. And since curse work is illegal, they're all criminals. Many become mobsters and con artists. But not Cassel. He hasn't got magic, so he's an outsider, the striaght kid in a crooked family. You just have to ignore one small detail - he killed his best friend, Lila, three years ago.

Cassel has carefully built up a facade of normalcy, blending into the crowd. But his facade starts to crumble when he finds himself sleepwalking, propelled into the night by terrifying dreams about a white cat that wants to tell him something. He's noticing other disturbing things too, including the strange behavior of his two brothers. They are keeping secrets from him. As Cassel begins to suspect he's part of a huge con game, he must unravel his past and his memories. To find out the truth, Cassel will have to outcon the conmen.

I'm loving the newer covers for these books! I have the old covers for book one and two. I think the old covers fit the story better, but this is just so pretty!

White Cat was such a different book! Really, just such a unique story. The world that Holly Black has created here is so fascinating. If you're looking for something new, I'd highly suggest picking up White Cat!

  1. Just finished reading this not too long ago, and am about to start Red Glove. White Cat was so good, so I'm hoping the rest of the series is just as awesome!

    1. I still need to read Red Glove! I'm kind of waiting until the whole series is out so I can read them all at once. :)

  3. Oh, how I love this series! However, I respectfully disagree on the cover issue. I don't think they should be pretty. Also, I am totally ticked off that they changed them for the last one. Why not match all three, then give them new covers? Anyway...here are my picks http://wp.me/pzUn5-14V

    1. Yeah, it's going to drive me nuts that they aren't going to match at all. I can understand maybe just changing the paperbacks...

  7. White Cat's been on my to-read list for a while. I actually have no idea why I haven't gotten to it yet because it sounds like my kind of exciting, mysterious, creepy-ish novel, fantasy (it's fantasy, right?) novel. Definitely checking it out soon.
